Post-harvest stock positions and what they meant for forward contracts.

Stock positions
By April the picture from the November harvest is clear enough to plan against. Grading is complete, lots are tested, and what remains unsold is what will carry the market to the next flowering.
Forward contracts
We saw more interest in forward commitments this month than in the same period last year. Buyers who were caught short in the late-summer squeeze are booking earlier — a sensible correction.
A note on grade substitution
We continue to see Sargol offered into retail channels as premium thread saffron. If a quoted price looks impossible for whole-thread Category I, check the form line on the specification before you check anything else.
Quality observations
Kashmiri lots from this harvest have tested well on colour, with the spread between best and weakest narrower than usual. Iranian material was steady, as it generally is.
Market observations are our own view of conditions we trade in, not investment or pricing advice. For a firm offer on a specific grade and volume, contact the export desk.
