Kashmir Saffron Monthly Market Update — March 2026
Export demand by lane and the currency effect on landed cost.

Demand by lane
Gulf lanes stayed strong through March, as they usually do in the run-up to the festive calendar. European enquiries were steadier and more specification-led — more questions about test methods, fewer about origin.
Currency and landed cost
Currency movement did more to the landed cost of a consignment this month than any change in the saffron price itself. Buyers quoting in their own currency should be reviewing the assumption behind their cost model, not just the offer in front of them.
Freight
Sea freight rates on the Gulf lanes were stable. Air freight remains the sensible option for sample and first-order volumes, where the freight differential is small against the value of the cargo.
What we are watching
Weather in the growing regions through the summer sets up the next harvest. It is too early to call, but anyone planning volume for the last quarter should keep an eye on it.
Market observations are our own view of conditions we trade in, not investment or pricing advice. For a firm offer on a specific grade and volume, contact the export desk.
